AJ Hackett Bungy Jumping and Minjin Swing
AJ Hackett is one of the worlds most famous lines of bungy jumping; and there is definitely a reason why. Bungy jumping is certainly not for the faint hearted. Although AJ Hackett Cairns does not boast the highest bungy in the world, it provides options which are unique to Cairns.
A number of jump styles are suggested for those who want a little extra squeeze of adrenalin. If it’s your first bungy and you’re a little nervous, a basic swan dive or tandem jump can be arranged (you can even dress as superman or other characters if you want); a basic swan dive was enough for me. For the more experienced jumpers, you can organise to do a front flip off the tower, be blind folded, or even ride a BMX bike off the roof!!! Why not prove how brave you are to your friends by showing them a video recorded from the Go Pro strapped to your hand??
We bundled our bungy jump with a Minjin swing, which is (to say the least), quite unlike swings I sat on as a child. Three of us were strapped into a lying position and suspended 45 metres off the ground. When I pulled the release rope, we plunged down into a swing reaching 120km/hour in just 3.5 seconds. This swing is not for the faint hearted. With a bit of effort, I managed to convince my mother to join us on the swing… I think she secretly enjoyed it.
Overall, it was a thoroughly enjoyable day. On Sundays, AJ Hackett run a ‘Sunday Sesh’ and exhibits live music, a licensed bar, BBQ, jumping castles and face painting. These guys sure know how to have fun.
